Corruption in History

Corruption and Greed

Does anyone not believe that there are and have been many greedy and/or evil Dictators, CEO’s, Lawyers, Politicians, Businessmen and just plain Crooks in the United States and throughout the World.   If your in doubt just review some of the more famous quotes dating from the times of Ancient Rome to this modern day era.

“The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws”… “If you would know who controls you see who you may not criticise.”…“They have plundered the world, stripping naked the land in their hunger… they are driven by greed, if their enemy be rich; by ambition, if poor…”

Tacitus, The Annals of Imperial Rome, 1st Century AD.

“In Cicero’s day,” classicist Lionel Casson wrote, “Consular hopefuls behaved as politicians always have and forever will: they made themselves as visible as possible, were charming to all potential voters and promised everything to everybody.”

1st Century BC. Rome.

If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools.

Greek Philosopher, Plato, Circa 5th Century BC.

I usually accept bribes from both sides so that tainted money can never influence my decision.

 Francis Bacon, 1561-1626, English philosopher

Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods...

 H.L. Mencken, 1880 – 1956, American columnist

Corruption, Embezzlement, Fraud, these are all characteristics which exist everywhere. It is regrettably the way human nature functions, whether we like it or not. What successful economies do is keep it to a minimum. No one has ever eliminated any of that stuff.

Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006.

  1. Wonderful blog! I found it while browsing on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Many thanks

  2. The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
